Ram Navmi, also spelled Ram Navami, is one of the most auspicious festivals of the Hindu religion. It commemorates the incarnation of Lord Ram - the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu - on the holy earth. Observed in either March or April as per the Gregorian calendar, this festival celebrates the birth of Lord Rama to Dashrath and Kousalya, the king and queen of Ayodhya.

The Spring Ram Navmi actually concludes the nine day long Navratri festival, which is about fasting and praying to the Almighty. On this day, which is the ninth day of Navratri, people go to temples, recite bhajans, and even bring Lord Rama‘s baby form along which they bathe and put in the cradle. On this day, people also pray to various Indian Goddesses and offer prasad to little girls, also known as Kanya Pujan or Kanjak.
